Edward: Tyler, hows everything there man? Lets start it up. Tell us about yourself, hometown and heritage. Whats your personal interests and how do you define your style?
Tyler: I'm a down to earth Midwestern boy from a somewhat small town in Iowa. I did a lot of moving while growing up and flip flopped between my divorced parents along the way. I eventually ended up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and realized that I wanted to start something new so I moved to sunny Arizona.
Arizona is an entirely different world than where I'm from. I'm a pretty easy going guy that can get along with just about anyone that comes my way. Some of my interests are working out and staying fit. Its actually one of my passions! I'm always learning more and more about diets, workouts, and eating habits each and everyday.
Its just something I've always loved and it was the only thing that was my stress reliever and kept me sane while I was growing up. My sense of style can be random at times. I'm a very low maintenance person but clean cut.
If I had the choice I would just wear underwear everywhere. But when its time to dress up I can clean up pretty good. I don't like to be judged or judge people by what the wear or look like. Its just my nature to never judge a book by its cover.
Edward: You have such a terrific background! Youve been on a cover of publications; you were in a bodybuilding contest. Tell us about all those experiences and how did all start?
Tyler: I've always wanted to get involved in fitness modeling for fitness magazines. I actually started modeling about a year ago when my photographer Carlos Arias discovered me. Ever since then I've just been more motivated.
I was on the cover of a nightlife & entertainment magazine here in Arizona & Texas and I'm hoping to do some more publications. I have the goal of being on the cover of my favorite magazine Muscle and fitness before I'm 30. I just started training pretty hard with a trainer last November and have done 3 shows so far. In 2 of the shows I came in 2nd overall so I'm not doing too bad.
To be honest with you I literally woke up one day and decided I wanted to do something different with my life, I'm a very competitive person so I chose bodybuilding and have fallen in love with it ever since. It keeps me motivated 24 hours a day.
Edward: Whats your secret to be in a good shape and whats the part of your body u like most and why?
Tyler: I'm pretty fortunate when it comes to getting lean. I actually have problems gaining weight. I guess its all in your diet. You can do 1000 sit ups or tons a reps everyday but if your diet isn't great, then you won't see results. I've learned so much this past year than I have in the last 10 years. I probably workout 6 days a week and do cardio about 3 times a week. Sometimes I'm at the gym twice a day and when I'm cutting for a show I've been in there three times a day several days a week.
My favorite part I like on my body now is probably my legs. Before I started competing I hated my legs and never worked on them and they weren't lean at all. I like them now because for as much as I hate doing leg workouts, the end result is worth it. I have to like them if I want to work them hard to get to the next level. I used to like my chest and back so I would work them the hardest.
Edward: Whats fame and success for you? And if you could choose 3 important things for your life and 3 amazing places around the world to have fun, which one you would choose and why?
Success is way more important to me than fame. Fame would be fun but I wouldn't need a ton of attention. I would want to live my life just like any other normal person would.
One important thing in my life is my family. If I was rich I would take care of my closest family. Another important thing is probably people liking me for me and not what I have. I've always grew up having respect for people and especially for the ladies. I've never really been anywhere because I was a deprived child growing up so I haven't seen much of the world.
One place I want to take my girlfriend too is Fiji. I hear its one of the most romantic places on earth. That would be a great place for a vacation and to spend some alone time with her. Another place would be Africa where my niece and nephew are from. I really want to learn more about them and see where they came from. I have an adopted niece and nephew from Sierra Leone, Africa and my sister and niece and have told me so much about their culture and how interesting it is and how they lived through the rebels coming into their village and taking over.
I also think Amsterdam would be a fun place because the place is so liberal. I have a friend at work that tells me all about his experience there. Maybe someday Ill make a trip to Europe and check the place out.
Edward: What do you think about having fans from different parts of the world with such unique life styles, cultures and so on? How do your rate importance about that?
Tyler: I love the idea of having fans from different parts of the world. I would like them to focus, not simply on whom I am or the fact that I am a famous model, but if my fans get any inspiration from what I do and use it to better their health or fitness life, them I think that would make me much happier. If fame becomes part of my life, I want to use it for the positive of helping others.
Edward: And talking about fans, just imagine a situation: You are anonymous in a crowd. Nobody notices you. Then all of a sudden, a fan approaches you and reveals to others that you are a model from a popular fashion campaign. The excitement takes over and the crowd gets wild. How would you handle it?
Tyler: Well I guess I would just soak in all the attention and try and calm the people down around me. I guess if people wanted autographs I would sign till my fingers fall off but if it got too out of hand then I would try and be escorted out of the place to somewhere safe. This is truly funny just thinking about it!
Edward: What do you think about modeling world? As a model, do you think youve already achieved your main purposes in the modeling market? If not, which modeling agencies, fashion campaigns and designers youd like to work for?
Tyler: I love the modeling world. There are so many beautiful people out there. Personally I havent done too many modeling gigs yet for me to feel like I have achieved my main purpose as a model. I'm just starting to get involved with as much as I can right now. I would love to really get involved with underwear modeling, some Calvin Klein campaigns would come in handy for me lol! Also anything within the fitness modeling world or natural bodybuilding would be my target.
Edward: Im sure you might have some funny/unusual model backstage stories. Share with us some of these moments.
Tyler: There are too many funny stories backstage or on location. People dont realize how raw some shoots can be. Modeling is not all glamour and fame, is hard work, getting dirty, tired and still looking flawless for an final image. One funny memory was the day I shot my first magazine editorial with photographer Carlos Arias.
We had to shoot a series of construction/handyman kind of shots, one of the images required to climb a huge tree. However the tree was miles away from where we had to part so Carlos and I had to hike at least a quarter of a mile with our hands full of equipment and on top of that I was also carrying two 30lb dumbbells the whole way.
Those dumbbells are use to pump up before the shoot but after all that walking I felt it was already done lol. When we got there I had to climb up the tree with a ton of bushes all around it so it was quite difficult to get up there shirtless without tearing up my skin from climbing up.
Edward: Quick questions for quick answers and tell us why!
Tyler:
Eating: Fish or meat?
Meat in the off season and fish in season; meat is for gaining weight and fish is for losing weight.
Vacation: Beach or the mountains?
The beach! I don't see it very often and when I do I never want to leave.
Fashion campaign: clothed or underwear?
Underwear for sure! I actually feel more comfortable in my underwear than clothed.
Movies: Action film or romantic ones?
Action films. I only watch romantic ones with my girlfriend and only if she wants to and that's pretty rare.
Dating: ask or get asked?
I think its flattering to get asked. Plus I'm really shy.
Place to make love: at home, in the middle of a crowd, in a party or on a paradisiacal island?
At a paradisiacal island! It would be fantasy experience that I've always wanted to do.
Sports: Group or individual ones?
I do both. Bodybuilding for individual and football and softball for group. My most favorite now is bodybuilding because if I mess up, its my own fault and cant blame anyone else for it.
Music: Rock or classical?
Rock. That's all I listen to when I workout
Politics: Democrats or Republicans?
Democrat. I'm a pretty liberal person on most things.
Way of travel: by train, plane, ship or bike?
Plane. I like to get there as quick as possible
Best season: spring, summer, autumn or winter.
In Arizona, autumn because the heat has just passed and I'm usually ready for the nice weather!
A terrific place and an unforgettable trip:
New York City! I would rather not say my most unforgettable trip lol!
