RONALD TAN: ACCELERATED MOMENTUM
Bom dia Connex readers! Thanks for stopping by. I truly appreciate your interest in my profile and your time very much. Please allow me to introduce myself--my name is Ron and I was born and raised in Rangoon, Burma in 1981.
I am of Chinese/Burmese descent, 5'11", weighs 150 lbs, brown eyes, black hair, and I have a slim/slender/runner built. ;) I picked up my camera a year and a half ago and I am traversing my interesting journey with full accelerated momentum!
I was born into a family of physicians and scientists and I was expected to continue in the "tradition." When I first entered University of California, Davis, I was majoring in Applied Physics because physics was interesting. The nature that we see can be mapped into equations and are governed by the four fundamental forces--we all experience these fundamental forces. Gravity prevents us from floating out into space.
We are deeply and emotionally affected by light (electro-magnetic radiation), and the substance that sustains our life--water (H20) is held together by the strong and the weak nuclear forces at the atomic level.I had a stoic upbringing and photography had reconditioned my mindset to see things in a different light.
STYLE
My photography style is simple, capture my models in a sexy, classy, and in a "high-fashion" light. My visual style is evident and consistent.
INTO COLD WATER
I am currently finishing up a double editorial project for reFRESH (UK) magazine. Earlier, I shot the Jan. 2008 cover for AX National (Australia) with model Chad Raile @ Click LA. I casted Chad because he fit the look and my magazine editor considered Chad a perfect fit for the magazine cover. The only funny or rather interesting I want to share is that Chad was afraid of the cold water. =) Chad was a good sport and he went into the cold water and made the moves for my camera.
POSITIVE ENERGY
Being a freelance photographerin Los Angeles is difficult and challenging, but when I do have time, I enjoy spending time engaging in conversations with my friends and generally cultivating and strengthening friendships--particularly with my existing friends and new friends. People sometimes use the excuse of "losing track of time" or "just too busy." To me, I love my friends like I love myself and their presence in my life is meaningful, significant, and just worth being alive and surrounded by positive energy!

COOL PLACES
I still consider Sacramento my home even though I now live in Los Angeles. I have my "refuge" spot that I used to frequent when I was having personal struggles--particularly with my sexuality.
I was at WPA Rock Garden in Sacramento on the day I came to my realization that I can't run away from the individual within--I accepted that I was gay. That date was 30th of January, 2006. I always stop by at the WPA Rock Garden and reminisce and reflect my decisions. What I am doing with my life and where I would like to go for the future.
UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS
Priceless. My life and existence as a human being would not be worth it if it weren't for my family--my two supportive younger siblings. My best bud Kyle and his family (my "other" family in Elk Grove). My uni buddies--you all had engaged with me stimulating and mental discussions--you helped me preserve my analytical nature! =P
Unforgettable moment(s): 30 Jan. 2006. That's the date I came out after years of living in denial. =) I guess I sort of knew which side of the fence I was on when I was eight! I am such a late boomer--came out at age 25 while simultaneously discovering I had thing for photography.
Another unforgettable moment was my first date. Hahaha. He challenged me in Chess and I annihilated his army! The loser treats the winner so I was treated to a great Vietnamese food in Davis, CA. After dinner, we went to see "Over the Hedge" and let's just say interesting things happened during the movie. ;)
MAIN MOTTO
Main motto; "Just Be Me" is my motto in life and the song is the soundtrack to my heart. I was advised that if I remain true to myself, I will not be denied. It is my outlook in life--I am going to stay true to myself and to the core beliefs I value--I will not let them be compromised.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I'd like to leave something with you all in hopes that you'll remember me and that I have earned a positive impression and respect from each one of you. The following was given to me by Mr. Jerry Avenaim (http://www.jerryavenaim.com/), "Stay true to yourself, and you will never fail. With that, I will say this... If your ship doesnt come in, start rowing! Thats what separates the men from the boys."
Please read the following: http://www.newmodels.com/.
Do not allow anyone to take advantage of you as a person. You are valuable and so much more. You are a human being and deserved to be treated with dignity and respect! Also do a google search on anyone you're meeting on the internet. Ask for references. It is better to be safe than sorry.
I would like to say "obrigado" for all the Connex readers--I have a feeling that the majority of you are Brazilians. I enjoy reading about your culture--particularly the famous Brazilian dance known as "Capoeira."
