Photographer DAVID VANCE: "I am a beauty addict.. out of control. I'm compelled to always find and record beautiful faces and bodies. The project or final manifestation is secondary."

EARLY CAREER START
I was born in Rochester, New York, but moved to Miami, FL. when I was
4 months old, so I consider myself a Florida native. My grandparents were Italian, and much of my influence comes from my ethnic background. I was exposed to the italian culture, art, music etc. as a small child. Although my early interest was in art... painting, drawing, and sculpting, I have been taking photos since I was 14.
After 4 years at Rochester Institute of Technology in my old hometown, I opened a studio in Miami. I spent many years shooting a lot of commercial work, but always enjoyed fashion and physique photography, evidenced by several books of my nudes published over the years, the most recent of which is TIMELESS, published last year by Bruno Gmunder in Germany.

STYLE AND MODELS
I leave that to other people. I can't see it (His style)... but I'm told that it's identifiable.
A warm, good natured outgoing personality. My aesthetic taste is eclectic. I find more and more that I'm drawn to multi-ethnic looks. I think the blending of the races makes for great beauty in both genders. I also like proportion and symmetry in a body to photograph. For me the model has to be very comfortable, loose and uninhibited.
RECENT WORKS
I have been working pretty regularly for the Exercise Group in New
York. They publish "Exercise for Men Only," and "Men's Exercise," among other titles, and also DNA magazine out of Australia. Recently I did some work for Lionsgate Entertainment... 3 DVD covers for Denise Austin. I am always shooting new talent, and I have just launched my new website where I sell fine art prints. www.davidvanceprints.com.

FEATURING LEGS
A male model (Delano) had flown in from the Bahamas to do a test with me. It was supposed to be a fashion shot... all black and white clothes. So he starts to get ready and he got on his black shoes and socks black boxer briefs, he put on his white shirt, black sweater and jacket.... and discovers that he has no pants for the outfit.... Just forgot to pack them. (: Well it was a long way to come not to shoot a photo, so we decided to shoot it as is.
Turned out he had great legs so I decided to feature them, and had him do a lot of walking and jumping against the studio wall. Truth is the photo is much more interesting than t would have been done traditionally.

DAVID VANCE FOR FUN
My whole life is fun.. I love to sing, draw and paint. It's more a matter of time management than what to do. Song I wrote and am trying to get a known singer to record. Recorded this last January.I also like to hang out with friends... go to
the movies.
ABOUT HANGING OUT, ETC...
I sometimes hang out on South Beach ( Lincoln Road people watching... it's becoming more and more pedestrian, but still amusing)
The world is a beautiful place.. you just have to know where to focus your attention.
People are attracted to me because I laugh a lot which is disarming. I am always myself... out there... not always good, but always real.

SPENDING TIME and MOTTO
With enlightened, open minded people, in close personal relationships
with genuine, uplifting interaction.
What you appreciate appreciates. It's all about gratitude.
Watching Mia Michael's choreography on FOX TV's "So You Think You Can
Dance." I'm totally overwhelmed, moved and inspired by her brilliance.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I am a beauty addict.. out of control. I'm compelled to always find and record beautiful faces and bodies. The project or final manifestation is secondary.
There are many and varied motivations for wanting to model. For some it's ego, for others it's economic. If you are creative and feel compelled to present yourself as an art object, or if you are very commercial and can make lots of $$$ you will probably end up being a model of some sort. Tips.... find your market.. Do
that... don't try to fit into a mold that doesn't suit you.
If you are 5"2 don't expect to take the world by storm as a fashion
model. If you are 6'2" and weigh 150 lbs, you will probably not be
good for fitness.. Just find what works for you.
