Interview done by Donna D

DonnaD: What are your personal and professional interests?

Marc: Anything to do with travel or the arts. I've been lucky to have combined these interests in a professional context as a TV presenter. But my primary goal professionally is acting.

Marc SavoiaDonnaD: I see you describe yourself as TV presenter, model and visual artist.  How did you get started in all of these?

Marc: I have a very diverse background in entertainment and the arts and have always been a creative person. There has been quite an organic element to my career thus far. I was artistic from a young age. I trained in performing arts and produced art work all my life.  I began modelling after my modelling agent Matthew Anderson (who is responsible for discovering Travis Fimmel also) saw me dancing on a bar at aged 21 to make ends meet.

His words were, "You don't need to do that anymore." It was a surprise as friends had suggested I try, and I had approached modelling agents previously and been rejected by all of them. It seems I was not an obvious choice. Matthew arranged my first tests and they were strong enough to suggest potential. To my surprise in my first week I booked two jobs including a skincare campaign, and so it all began.

Marc SavoiaI also did serveral auditions for an Australian stage production to play the lead of Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever. I was flown to London to do my last audition for the famous producer Robert Stigwood and landed the part. Returning to Australia I did a publicity launch with the Bee Gees but then sadly the show fell through and did not return for many years. Needless to say I was devastated and vowed never to sing or dance again.

Luckily that whole experience brought me an introduction to the Head of Television at Foxtel, our cable network in Australia, and I was given my first break as a presenter. It's been a diverse and exciting aspect of my career ever since and I have appeared on screens in the US, Canada and Brazil.

DonnaD:  You must keep very busy, do you have much time for leisure activites? What do you like to do in your spare time, if you have any?

Marc SavoiaMarc:   Work in this industry can be hot and cold, so there can be long periods of downtime. In my spare time, when I'm not painting, I like to catch up with friends and go out for a drink and a dance. I also am a bit of a collector and love picking up cool vintage clothes and objects at flea markets and second hand stores.

DonnaD:  Is there anything you haven't done that you would like to do?

Marc:  I have tried and done so many things and there is a lot that I would be open to exploring. I think it would be quite cool to design clothes and have a fashion label one day.

DonnaD:   What campaigns have you done that were your favorite? Are there any you would like to do?

Marc: I once did a funny campaign for an ice cream. It was an image of me wearing nothing, reclined and emerging from a chocolate ice block. It appeared everywhere - on buses, trams and convenience stores. It was certainly interesting to shoot. ;) I am yet to do a fragrance so that would be really cool.

DonnaD:  What about acting, have you considered pursuing that?

Marc:  Definitely! I have done some acting work already and just completed another film acting course. It would be a dream to do more, particularly to work in feature films. I love aggressive scenes. I am a big fan of director Pedro Almodovar. I would love to work with him - if only I could speak Spanish! I do however speak Italian and a little French.

Marc SavoiaDonnaD:  I know you get to travel a lot in what you do. Tell us about your favorite and least favorite locations.

Marc:  There are so many locations that I have worked in that I love..it's too hard to say! Paris, New York, London, Rome, the Greek Islands. Visiting these places has given me such an education in life. My least favourite working location was perhaps Singapore and that was only due to the extreme humidity and heat..otherwise it's a lovely place and the people are really friendly.

DonnaD:  I've seen some of your art and it's amazing, you have a great eye for color and design. Do you think you will ever have that as a full-time career?

Marc: Thank you! I would love to paint full-time one day but at the moment it's a balancing act with the variety of things that I do. I have been producing abstract art and recently exploring figurative. It's a very personal and emotional process and there are many strong sexual nuances in a lot of my works.

Marc SavoiaDonnaD:  What are you most passionate about?

Marc:  I am a passionate person by nature probably due to my Italian heritage. It comes out in most things I do. I'm very passionate about the freedom to express myself whether it's through artwork or just being a social animal, hitting the town with a group of friends and meeting new people.

DonnaD:  Who were the greatest influences in your life.

Marc:   My parents definitely. Two friends particularly worth noting are Mark and Linda. Both have been integral in shaping me as a human being from a young age. They have been beside me during some really difficult and dark periods in my life and their friendship is an endless source of inspiration. I love them both very much and feel very lucky to call them friends. They feel more like family.

DonnaD:   What do you consider to be your best feature, physical or otherwise.

Marc:   I have been told I have nice feet. ha ha!
