Jeremy Mulkey, who in the past couple of months has become a real favourite with Connex247 visitors recently competed in Gatorz 2007 Model Search Competition sponsored by INBF in New York City.
And, as his popularity as a model spreads, Jeremy is also on the cover of Gaydar magazine!
We caught up with Jeremy and here is his story! Jeremy also gave us a video clip!
Michael: You recently competed in a model search contest in NYC. How did this come about?
Jeremy: This was actually an invite only competition that required participants to send in photos in order to compete. So, I obviously entered and was picked to compete! I was a little hesitant at first since this was my first show ever but it was a great expeience and something I will continue to do in the future as well.
Michael: Tell us a bit about how you prepared for the competition.
Jeremy: I basically treated this like a bodybuilding show and prepared how a bodybuilder would. I carb loaded to fill out my muscles a few days before the show so I looked more full and not flat. I also cut out my sodium and water a couple days before so I didn't look bloated and to increase vascularity.
Since this was a fitness model search they take into consideration handsomeness, grooming, stage presence, confidence and symmetry. It doesn't take a mound of muscle to do well in this group so that helped me out some. I mean, I do have a lot of muscle but compared to the bodybuilders I have a lot of work to do! But, I got them in the looks department I've been told so I'm not complaining;)
Michael: I understand this was your first experiencxe at a competition of this nature. Describe how you felt before it all began... as it proceeded and when you were done..
Jeremy: As soon as I walked into the lobby to register at noon I was extremely nervous. It was like I was back in high school again on a friday night before a football game.
I started to calm down some as the day went on and felt more relaxed. Then, about 30 minutes before I went on stage we went backstage to the "pump room". This room was full of mirrors, dumbells and lifting bands for the competitors to get a pump going before they walk out on stage. This is when I turned on the ipod and got serious. I just stayed focused and went over my poses and made sure I had a hard pump going.
All of the competitors are in this room so I got a good look at my competition and saw what I was up against. I knew then that even though this my first show, I had a chance to do really well. Next, they called out my name to go onstage. I went out and did my pose routine, hoping I wouldn't mess up since I just learned poses a few hours beforehand!
But, I went out there and knocked them out as good as I could and left the stage with an applause from the audience. That was the best feeling from the whole experience.
Michael: Jeremy, as a record breaking athlete you are used to pressure to achieve your goals both in track and football.. How did this exeperience compare to big moments in your athletic career.
Jeremy: This didn't quite compare to the moments I have had when I broke records in college or the big games we won on the gridiron. I don't think I will have ever moments like that again. But, what this did do was give me the competitive edge I have been lacking.
I haven't been in a competition since football season ended last year so this gave me the rush I needed. It was great to compete in a sport against other athletes again. I have done that my whole life and it was great to have that feeling again. Placing 2nd in my first show ever against some of the top bodies in the world made it even more rewarding!
Michael: Quite frankly Jeremy, you strive for the being the best in everything you undertake. Yet, you also seem to be very laid back person. Share the two sides of Jeremy... the intense competitor vs laid back guy.
Jeremy: Well the intense competitor Jeremy comes out during my workouts or even in modeling. I have always wanted to be the best I could possibly be in everything I take on. Of course I am never satisfied and feel that I have never achieved my full potential in anything. I feel I could have been a better football player or a faster runner in track. But, this mentality gave me the drive I needed to stay hungry and want more.
That is why I loved doing this show and getting 2nd only leaves me hungry for more. Even if I would have gotten first I would have wanted to enter another federation with new competitors so I could beat them as well. That is just the way I have been with everything I do.
But, like you said, I have a very laid back side to me as well. I am so intense in the gym several hours a day that I have to be laid back. I don't take a lot of things too seriously because in most cases they aren't worth getting worked up about. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not this way with everything, just the little everyday petty stuff that doesn't even matter. I am very easy going and open minded as well so I get along with just about everybody.
Michael: How did you do in the competition?
Jeremy: I got 2nd and lost to the winner from 2 years ago, Tim Taylor.
Michael: What's next on your agenda
Jeremy: Next on the agenda...well I am on the cover of the most recent issue of Gaydar magazine. I am also in the casting for a movie by orchard lane films that shoots in December. I have been talking with them ever since I was in Cosmopolitan magazine 2 years ago and they are finally ready to shoot. I will know in a month or two if I am picked for the part.
I am also doing an underwear campaign for Play underwear. I am their model of the month for September so go there and vote for me! There are a couple of other things in the mix as well so I will keep you updated as I hear more. As always, it's a pleasure to be featured here and I now I can't wait for the next story! Thanks Michael!
