Edward: Welcome to Connex247 family Jeff. It´s such a great pleasure to have you here in the site. Let´s start up with your your personal interests. Tell us about your yourself, hometown....

Jeff: I am a former model (80's) who took to photography about 8 years ago. I currently live in Texas with my daughter and our German Shepherds were we moved from the island of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. I love Texas! Texas has everything a photographer needs, beaches, big cities, deserts, swamps, plains , mountains, forests and a vast supply of beautiful people.

My main influence as a photographer comes from the late actor/photographer John Derek. I feel John Derek was one of the most underated photographers of the 20th century. I love the way he used natural lighting and beautiful sets, mainly outside and he used alot of nature with his subjects, he had some of the best models, his wives, Bo Derek, Linda Evans and Ursula Andress.

Edward:  How did you become interested in a career as a photographer?

Aaron photo by Jeff BrewsterJeff: I became interested in photography by just taking pictures and underdstanding the working relationship a model has with his photographer. It is a team effort.

Edward: Do you think that digital era really helped the photographers concerning aspects like quality and tecnology? In your opinion what were the most remarkable achievments in photography in the last decade?

Jeff: The digital era is a godsend to photographers. What a blessing it has become! No dust, no fuss! No more working long hours in a darkroom. I love it!

Edward:  What do you look most when selecting models to shoot?

Brooks photo by Jeff BrewsterJeff: The thing I look for most in models are your typical  attractive person you see everyday.I like working with "non" models. Most of the models you see in my website are exclusive only to me. Most are friends of mine. I never advertise for models. People I know will say, "I know a person who would photogaph real well". Most of models have never even thought about modeling before. I feel like the best looking models are your everyday folks. I always tell them , "I want other people to see you the way I see you."

Edward: You seem to have helped a number of models with their careers. What do you really feel about that?

Jeff: The only models I have had any help in there careers are Aaron Loftin, Brooks Johnson and Kyle Pringle. Most of my models are only doing it for good pictures and "shits and grins".

Aaron photo by Jeff BrewsterEdward:  What advice would you give to models and to the aspiring ones?

Jeff: The advice I can give aspiring models is check out your photographers! Check out there websites and work. Go with your gut, there are alot of unethical people out there.  Turn down work you dont feel comfortable doing.

Edward: There must be special moments when you feel that you have captured a perfect picture... Share this passion with us. How does this special moment happen?

Jeff: The perfect picture just happens, especially when you are shooting outside, I really hate studio work, its looks so "staged". The best pictures are usually the last ones of the day, you have traveled to a beautiful spot and worked for a few hours and BAM everything comes together!

Edward: If you could select 5 fantastic places around the world for a shooting, which ones you´d choose and why?

Photo by Jeff BrewsterJeff: The 5 fantastic places would be the Gulf Coast, The Great Barrier Reef/ South Pacific, Manhattan, Mexico and anywere in the Carribean. These are the places were I have been, my fantasy place is Greece, I plan to shoot there soon.

Edward:  If a model wants to work with you, how do they get in touch?

Jeff: If a model wants to work with me, send me an email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it with a picture. Please be sure to check out my website first, to view my work http://www.jeffbrewster.net

Edward: Jeff, thanks for sharing your story with us. Leave a message to my Connex247 readers around the world and tell us your expectations for 2007!

Jeff: I am having a book being released this yaer by TOP CHOICE PRESS, out of Boston, so keep an eye out for that. my work has graced magazine covers globally and there is only more to come. I also look forawrd to photographing some of the Connex247 models and turning some of my discoverys in Connex247 boys as well.

As for; "the perfect picture just happens", that's not exactly true. There are certain elements of a superior photograph that a photographer must understand, light & shadow as well as the art of composition. I've viewed most of Mr. Brewster's work and found it ordinary. He has quite a bit more to learn before his knowledge can match his ego.
Perhaps his quote should be;
"If I take enough pictures, one of 'ems bound to turn out right."

AWESOME WORK

I have been following your work and you, somehow, do indeed photograph so well. Your models are carefully chosen and your work depicts their beauty. I enjoyed your interview and I wish you continued success!
