ABOUT YOU
Well my name is Jameson Arasi, I am 25-years-old and I grew up in Stony Brook Long Island. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double major in Journalism and History.
I worked as an Editorial Producer for Major League Baseballs website after college, but took a leave of absence to pursue modeling. I am currently living in South Beach, Miami for the winter modeling season.
WORKING FOR MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
Well I began writing for the sports section of the local paper when I was 16 years old, moved on to the High School paper, and have always done well in English and writing classes. In college, I wrote for The Badger Herald school newspaper and was accepted into the Journalism School my sophomore year.
The summer after my junior year, I interned for MLB.com, partly working in the New York City office, and also assisting the beat writers for the New York Yankees and New York Mets. It was an unbelievable experience and a very positive one at that, so they hired me to work in their newsroom after graduation.
GYM ROUTINE
I lift occasionally, but the secret is definitely in the cardio and diet. Light weights and high repetitions help to stay cut, and I try to do two-a-days at the gym one week out of the month to shock my body and really prevent me from plateuing.
Also, classes that gyms offer, such as cardio sculpting, yoga, and other high-intensity light weight training classes can really accelerate the results you are looking for. I love playing all major sports, but being down here in Miami for the winter, beach volleyball is a great way to get some extra cardio in!
Basically, its all about effort, and in this business, there is no margin for error. Working out is part of the job and dedication is huge. Granted, theres always going to be someone in better shape, better looking, etc., but you have to put yourself in the BEST situation for success.
"PLAYING DRESS UP"
I never really had an appreciation for fashion until I was exposed to the modeling world. I would always conform to the accepted trends and just blend in. However, when you start playing dress up and working with great designers, photographers, make-up artists, etc., you really gain an appreciation for fashion and the vision that the designer had when he/she made that article of clothing.
That said, I think you need to find your niche
I am a t-shirt and jeans guy, but I definitely like to dress up for formal occasions and whatnot. If it works, it works. Just add your own flare and unique style.
Having that All-American look, I would love to work for designers like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, etc., but I would love the challenge of making a company/designer that I normally wouldnt be casted for work.
UPS AND DOWNS
The upside to modeling has been the amazing people I have met in all aspects of the industry. It has been a great experience and I have met some of my closest friends through this business.
I think the downside of modeling is the obvious physical/mental strain that can lead to eating disorders that are synonymous with the business. People try anything to achieve perfection, no matter what the cost. People can be brutally honest, but I think you have to be comfortable and confident in yourself and stick to what you know, rather than changing for other people.
"SHIRTLESS GREETER"
An agent in New York City spotted me on the subway and gave me her card. I didnt really pursue it because of my real job, but I started working as a Shirtless Greeter at Abercrombie and Fitchs flagship store on Fifth Avenue and met a ton of models who persuaded me to pursue it. They introduced me to some people and I decided to spend the winter season in Miami.
FINDING BALANCE
There have been studies done that attractive people are given more opportunities/jobs/perks etc. because of their looks. However, I think you have to find that balance between inner and outer beauty to truly be successful.
I think that you can use your looks to your advantage by receiving those opportunities, but its what you make of those opportunities when you get there. Looks can only get you so far
but they cant hurt :)
GLASS HALF FULL GUY
I am definitely an optimistic, glass half-full guy. I come from a wonderful family. I am very lucky. My parents have been married almost 32 years, and they are very positive and supporting people. However, I think that our society has changed for the better, but that our governmental laws havent kept up with the times. I dont really want to get political.
IMPORTANT THINGS
- To find love
to really find that person who you care for more than yourself
- Good Health: goes without saying
- Success in whatever I do
not just financial
- Family: the people who love you unconditionally are very underrated
- To have a positive impact on other people.
FINAL COMMENTS
Your main motto: 1) "Opportunities are seldom perfect... but I've learned that if you aren't ready for them, they may never come again."
-Tiki Barber
2) "Don't wait, Don't wait, The lights will flash and fade away, The days will pass you by, Don't wait..."
-Dashboard Confessional
UNFORGETTABLE
An unforgettable moment: The summer internship interviewing my childhood heroes of the New York Yankees on a daily basis and being published internationally. It really makes these larger than life baseball player just normal guys. When it comes down to it, they are just normal people who get paid millions of dollars to play a kids game very well.
