Edward: Hello Anton and welcome to Connex247 family again. Yeahh, my Connex readers have been asking me about you. So, tell us the news. What have you been doing lately?
Anton: Lately I have been getting a lot of things done I've been procrastinating about, me and my girlfriend try to push each other more this year to do things sooner than later and not leave them for later.
There are plenty of plans I've made for this year, little by little have been getting them done. Got my passport earlier this year, time to travel inernationally, getting a driver's license later this month, depending on which area I move to will determine whether or not I need a car yet.
Edward: One of your most recent shoot was a cover model of Genre magazine. Tell us about this experience. How did it happen?
Anton: I was bartending at this bar/lounge and the editor (Chris Ciompi) came up to me and gave me his card, said they usually book models through agencies, but he wants to put me in one of his issues. We talked about the story, the shoot, and I wasn't really comfortable with certain things about the shoot (it was accessories on body parts, very artsy), so I decided to pass.
Month later they were shooting another story, and I was suppose to go see Chris, but didn't like the shape I was in and decided to pass again. After that I shot with Kevin McDermott for my portfolio, good photographer, good guy, he said he was shooting new story for Genre's 16th anniversary issue and they would want to use me for it, I agreed, and we shot for the inside story about chest exercises as well as some studio shoots just in case. As a result, they liked how the photos came out and decided not only to use it for the story, but for a cover, centerfold, and table of contents page as well. :)
Edward: I´m sure you might have some interesting/unusual/funny backstages stories to share with us, huh?
Anton: There are a few, first time I shot with Kal Yee for his book 'Slide', I walked in the hotel room where he scheduled the shoot. Him and his assistant set up the location, the lights and everything and then he showed me where the shoot would take place, pointing around the bathroom and shower.
I said cool and got ready to shoot, next thing I know he tells me to climb in the sink where you would normally wash your face, me being a little guy, I somehow fit and managed to sit through the shoot, hehe, but needless to say, it was very uncomfortable to concentrate.
Another time was when I was doing a gig for some underwear website, and they wanted to shoot in broad daylight in Times Square (nyc), right across the street from MTV studio. The concept was me hailing a cab in my underwear, then me getting into cab and getting out of the cab, I am uncomfortable being in spotlight as is. In the end, it ended up being cut short shoot because it attracted too many people from the street.
Edward: As a model do you think you have already achieved your main purposes in the modeling market? If not, which modeling agencies, fashion campaigns and designers would you like to work for?
Anton: No, I don't think I've achieved anything. I've done a few things here and there, but nothing at all to brag about. Since I started modelling I've always wanted a cover of Men's Fitness and Men's Health, I used to read those magazines all the time, so why not be in one. I'd like to work with D&G, A&F, Calvin Klein, Diesel, Nautica and any brand of item I have in my closet, just because I wear it, it'd be great to represent it as well.
Edward: Are you a fashion guy? What do you usually like to wear when you are not working?
Anton: I'm a simple guy, but I like to dress funky on a good occasion, my everyday wardrobe would be plain Hanes V-neck Tshirt (I hate crew neck), lowrise blue jeans and Vans slip-on kicks, on occasion, I like plaid pants, or pinstripe pants with some simple casual top.
Edward: What do u most like when you work with a photographer? What are the main characteristics u most admire in this professional?
Anton: Photographer that you can relate to, somebody who is cracking jokes to make you feel comfortable, somebody who acts more like a friend of 5 years than a photographer. Relaxed and easy going.
Edward: Just imagine a situation: You are anonymous in a crowd. Nobody notices you. Then all of a sudden, a fan approaches you and reveals to others that you are a model from a popular fashion campaign. The excitement takes over and the crowd gets wild. How would you handle it?
Anton: Step 1. Point anywhere randomly, sticking your index finger out. Step 2. Yell out "Hey, that's Bruce Willis!"
Edward: Anton, thanks again for sharing your story with us. Tell us about your plans for this year and leave a final message to my Connex247 readers around the world!
Anton: This year, has been good for me so far. My 24th birthday is coming up May 6th, I made a gift to myself by booking a trip to Barbados for a week, that should be fun. Not making any exceptional plans, I'll just live by the day, but as any person will set to aim high in terms of profession and maintaining a good relationship. :)
